Fennel seeds look like cumin seed. Cumin seeds look black in appearance but fennel seeds are green. These seeds taste sweet in eating. It is served as mouth freshener in numerous hotels, restaurants and even homes. It helps in digestion and also its juice extracts can be used for making many enzymes.

Different names for fennel seeds:

In Sanskrit language it is known as saatpuspa. In Bengali it is known as sweet cumin seeds or muhari. In Oriya it is known as sop. Gujarati it is called ad sowa and anasi. In Punjabi it is called badi saunf.

Use of fennel seeds:

It is used as spices in vegetables and pickle. Even people use fennel seeds in making soups. It is also used for putting tadka in the food. It is also used in sweet things or dishes along with salty things or dishes to enhance their taste. It is also added in juices or thandai during summers.

Use of fennel seeds in treating diseases:

It controls cholesterol and even doctors recommend eating fennel seeds after meals. It helps maintain the digestion. Mix fennel seeds in lukewarm water for treating digestion problems.

If you feel burning sensation in palms or ankles then mix fennel seeds with mishri and eat. UNANI considers fennel seeds very important. If pregnant women take 2 spoons of fennel seeds daily after meals then she can have a fairer child. It keeps breath fresh and also keeps your mind calm and cool.
