Kaddu Halwa – Butternut Squash Halva Recipe - Pumpkin Halwa Recipe
Everyone likes to have sweets as a dessert after meals. Many of you do not like Pumpkin (kaddu) much as a dish, but i am sure you all will definitely love to eat Halwa made if Pumpkin. So come lets make Pumpkin Halwa today for the dessert.
Get a ripe Pumpkin to make Kaddu Halwa. You can also make Pumpkin Halwa from raw Pumpkin. But the ripe one is already sweet in taste, which is why it is preferred most while making any kind of sweet.
Ingredients for Pumpkin (Kaddu) Halwa
- Pumpkin or Butternut Squash - 500 gms.
- Ghee - 2 table spoon.
- Sugar - 200 gms.
- Mawa - 100 gms. (grated)
- Cashews - 10-12 (cut each into 4 pieces)
- Raisins - 20 (separate the stems)
- Cardamom - 4-5
- Pistachios - 5-6
Method - How to make Kaddu Halwa
Pumpkin is made with the same method like we make Carrot (Gajar ) Halwa.
Peel and wash the pumpkin. Put the grated pumpkin into the pan along with ghee and cook it covered on low or medium flame. Keep on stirring the pumpkin at short intervals.
Once the pumpkin becomes tender add sugar to it. After adding the sugar you will see that the juice will start extracting from the pumpkin. Increase the flame and stir the pumpkin continuously till all the juice gets reduced and dries off.
Now put the grated mawa along with cashews and raisins into the pan and mix well. Stir the halwa and cook for 3-4 minutes. Add cardamom to it and mix well.
Kaddu Halwa - Butternut Squash Halva - Pumpkin halwa is ready. Take it out in a serving dish and garnish with chopped pistachios and cashews and serve it hot. You can consume this halwa for over a week.
If you do not have mawa, then use condensed milk.
