Kathal Masala Bharta Recipe । Jackfruit Masala Dry Sabzi
It is a curry of jackfruit which is perfect for the main course and light food.
Ingredients for Kathal Bharta
- Jackfruit - 500 grams
- Tomatoes - 3 (200 grams)
- Mustard oil - 3 to 4 tbsp
- Green coriander (finely chopped) - 3 to 4
- Ginger (grated) - 1 inch
- Green chilli (finely chopped) - 3 to 4
- Cumin seeds - ½ tsp
- Asafoetida - 1 pinch
- Turmeric powder - ½ tsp
- Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
- Coriander powder - 1 tsp
- Garam Masala - ½ tsp
- Dry fenugreek - 1 tbsp
- Salt - more than 1 tsp
How to make Kathal Bharta
Take ½ kg of peeled jackfruit, apply some oil to your palms and chop it. Add it in a cooker to boil along with a ½ cup of water. Boil until a whistle blows. Take 3 medium sized tomatoes and finely chop them.
After the first whistle, turn the flame to low and cook for 4 to 5 minutes. Add 3 to 4 tablespoons of oil in a wok and heat it. After heating the oil, add a ½ teaspoon of cumin seeds to it on low flame.
Add a pinch of asafoetida and roast until brown. Add 3 to 4 finely chopped green coriander to it and saute the spices. Add a ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder, a tablespoon of dry fenugreek leaves after crushing to it.
Add a teaspoon of coriander powder, a teaspoon of Degi Mirch to it and roast it. Add more than a teaspoon of salt to it. Open lid of the cooker and the boiled jackfruit to the Masala mixture. Add a ½ teaspoon of Garam Masala, a ¼ teaspoon of mango powder to it.
Cover and cook on low flame for 5 minutes. Stir it and again, cook while covering it. The Bharta has cooked after 5 minutes, add some coriander leaves and stir well. The jackfruit Bharta is ready to be served, garnish it with finely chopped green coriander. Serve it along with Chappati, Paratha and rice.
You can use any variety of cooking oil instead of mustard oil.
You can add onion after chopping and roasting it as per your taste.
You can use the ginger paste instead of grated ginger.
