Chana Dal Vada Recipe

Today we are going to make the famous South Indian dish Chana Dal Vada.  It is very easy to make them and they are ready in a jiffy.  They taste amazing.  If you make them once and eat them, you will like to make them again and again.  So you too make Chana Dal Vada with this easy recipe and enjoy their taste with your family.


Ingredients for Paruppu Vadai


Chana Dal - 1 cup

Urad Dal - 2 tbsp

Green Chilli - 2

Ginger - 1 inch, chopped

Coriander Seeds - 1 tsp

Fennel Seeds - 1 tsp

Cumin Seeds - 1/2 tsp

Cinnamon - 1/2 inch

Cloves - 2

Asafoetida - 1/2 inch

Curry Leaves - 15-20

Coriander Leaves - 2-3 tbsp

Chilli Flakes - 1/2 tsp

Salt - 3/4 tsp


Process of making Chana Dal Vada


Wash and soak 1 cup of chana dal and 2 tbsp of urad dal in water for 2 hours.  Then put 2 green chilies, 1 inch ginger, 1 tsp of whole coriander, 1 tsp of whole fennel, 1/2 tsp of cumin seeds, 1/2 inch cinnamon and 2 cloves in the mixer jar.  Grind them coarsely.


After grinding, remove the water from the lentils completely and put both the lentils, save some whole gram dal and grind them coarsely.  Then take it out in a bowl and add the remaining whole gram dal, 1/2 pinch asafoetida, 15-20 chopped curry leaves, 2-3 tbsp of finely chopped coriander leaves, 1/2 tsp of chilli flakes and 3/4 tsp of salt.  Mix them well, the batter for the vadas will be ready.


Now take a little batter, round it, press it and make a vada and keep it on a plate.  Similarly prepare all the vadas.  Now heat oil in a pan, the oil should be medium-high hot and the flame should be medium-high.


Put the vadas in hot oil for frying.  Let them fry for some time, then flip them and fry them till they turn golden brown from both sides.  After frying, take them out and fry the rest in the same way.  In this way the chana dal vada will be ready.  Serve them and enjoy their taste.




Grind the lentils coarsely and save some whole lentils.

For frying them, the oil should be medium-high hot and the flame should be medium-high.
