Chana Dal with Lauki Curry Recipe
Lauki sabzi is usually not liked by all, but if you make mix lauki with chana dal then it tastes really delicious.

Ingredients for Chane ki Dal and Lauki ki Sabzi
- Bottle gourd - 300 grams
- Chana dal - 50 grams (1/4 cup)
- Tomato - 2
- Green chilly - 1
- Ginger - 1/2 inch long baton (1 tsp)
- Oil or ghee - 1 to 2 tbsp
- Asafoetida - 1 pinch
- Cumin seeds - 1/4 tsp
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
- Coriander powder - 1 tsp
- Red chilly powder - 1/4 tsp
- Salt - as per taste or 3/4 tsp
- Green coriander - 2 to 3 tbsp (finely chopped)
How to make Chana Dal (Split Bengal Gram) with Bottle Gourd
Soak chana dal for 2 to 3 hours before in water.
Peel gourd and wash thoroughly. With help of knife chop the gourd in small chunks.
Grind tomato, green chilly and ginger to make a fine paste. Add oil in pressure cooked and heat it sufficiently. Add asafoetida and cumin seeds. After sauteing cumin seeds, add turmeric powder, coriander powder and red chilly powder. Stir the masala with help of a ladle and add grounded tomato paste. Saute until oil starts floating on the surface. Now add gourd and chana dal in roasted masala. Stir and saute for 2 to 3 minutes. Add 1.5 cups of water and salt and mix well. Close the pressure cooker with the lid.
After one whistle, reduce the flame and cook for 4 to 5 minutes on low flame. Once all steam escapes, open the lid and mix green coriander in the sabzi.
Chana dal and lauki is ready. Take out the sabzi in a bowl. Add some more green coriander leaves. Serve piping hot with chapatti, naan, parantha and relish eating.
If you prefer adding onion and garlic, then take 1 onion and 3 to 4 garlic cloves. Peel and chop them finely. Place chopped onions and garlic in hot oil and saute until they turn pinkish in color. Add rest of the spices as mentioned above.
